20+ Years IT Operations
BC-AB Serving This Corridor

I spent 20 years making technology work for organizations. Now I do it for the people who need it most.

My name is Steve. I'm the founder of Avalta.

I built my career in IT operations - implementing systems, fixing what's broken and making sure complex technology works reliably for the people who depend on it. I've worked across industries and organization sizes. I've seen projects done right and projects done catastrophically wrong.

What I kept noticing, over and over, was that the businesses with the most to gain from technology were often the ones with the least access to it. Not because it wasn't available. Because nobody was translating it for them - explaining it in plain language, implementing it without a six-figure budget and staying around to make sure it actually worked.

Why tourism operators in Western Canada

The BC-Alberta tourism corridor is home to some of the most resilient small business owners I've encountered. Lodge owners who manage properties, guests, staff, marketing and operations - often simultaneously, often alone. Tour operators who built something special and are now drowning in the administrative work that comes with success.

These operators are being squeezed from every direction: a labour shortage that doesn't resolve, guests who expect instant responses at midnight, OTA commissions that eat into margins and rising costs across the board. And they're watching AI become mainstream while not having a clear sense of what it can actually do for a business like theirs.

I started Avalta to close that gap.

What working with me looks like

When you work with Avalta, you work directly with me - not a junior associate, not an outsourced implementation team. I ask the right questions, figure out where AI can actually help your specific operation and then I set it up.

I don't hand you a tool and wish you luck. I configure it for your business, train you on how it works and stay available while you get comfortable with it. Most of my clients see measurable results within the first month - hours saved, guest response times reduced, reviews handled.

The AI landscape is noisy and confusing. My job is to cut through that and tell you clearly what's worth your time and money - and what isn't.

HOW I WORK

A few things I believe in

Specificity over generality

Generic AI advice is everywhere. What works for a 200-room hotel chain doesn't work for a 12-cabin fishing lodge. Every recommendation I make is specific to your operation, your team and your budget.

Results in weeks, not months

Most AI implementations for small tourism businesses should show measurable results within 30 days. If it's taking longer than that, something is wrong. I hold myself to that timeline.

No dependency

My goal is for you to understand and control the tools I set up. I'll train you properly. You shouldn't need to call me every time something needs adjusting - though I'm here when you do.

Honest about what AI can't do

AI is powerful and genuinely useful for tourism operators. It also has limits. I'll tell you clearly what it can and can't do for your business - even if that means a smaller project for me.
